Bee populations are declining worldwide for several reasons

Neonicotinoid pesticides kill what consumes any part of the plant including pollen

• These are used on corn, canola, soya beans and ornamental flowers. 

If it doesn’t kill the bees, it affects their foraging abilities so they can’t do their job

Monocultures, crops containing only one plant, lead to nutrient deficiencies and poor immune systems

In the city many flowers are not the right shape for bees, are unavailable at crucial times or produce little to no pollen; these are not native

• For example, bees cannot acess the pollen inside flowers in which the petals form from long tunnels because they cannot fit inside

• Pansie and double bagonias do not produce any pollen at all, making them useless to bees. 

Accessible water sources in the city are scarce because bees need islands to land on
